To me a true test comes not from what a politician says in public because this by definition is barking with the pack - but his/her ability to distance him- or her-self from that barking when not on a stump. It is my perception that after years of barking, most politicians internalize it and cannot distance themselves from it anymore. I think Gore was an exception, and probably Obama.
