And as much as I would like to see world socialism, I do NOT think the way to get there is to oppose financial capitalism by backing thugs and religious zealots.

Since none of us has clout to wield or ordinance to ship it's safe to say that no one's 'backing' anyone.
All we're doing is talking about the situation. Which, as it happens, is all we can do.
There's an entertaining sort of big headedness in the idea that what's going on here is a discussion of who we should be 'backing'.
