CHLAFLY / PALIN TOGETHER: Scheduled Award Ceremony Takes On Added Significance

St. Paul, Minnesota—The Republican National Coalition for Life (RNC/ Life) praises Republican Presidential Nominee John McCain for selecting pro-life Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) as his vice presidential running mate. Palin has been the governor of Alaska since 2006. A mother of five, she recently gave birth to her fifth child, her son Trig, who was diagnosed in-utero with Down’s Syndrome. Her selection makes her the very first Republican woman to be a vice presidential candidate.

RNC for Life National Chairman Phyllis Schlafly is available for interviews from St. Paul, MN.

“Sarah Palin is an outstanding governor, an exemplar of all that is good and true,” said RNC for Life National Chairman Phyllis Schlafly. “She is a major leader in the pro-life movement and that is main reason we chose her as our keynote speaker for our ‘Life of the Party’ party at this year’s GOP convention.”

“John McCain has just won the election with this pick,” said RNC for Li fe Executive Director Colleen Parro. “Governor Palin will have wide appeal among social conservatives and pro-life Republicans.”

Parro continued, “This is the conservative outreach from the McCain campaign for which we have been hoping. We couldn’t have asked for a better VP pick.”

The Republican National Coalition for Life was founded by Phyllis Schlafly in the fall of 1990 after other groups publicly announced their intention to provoke a floor fight at the 1992 Republican convention in order to remove the pro-life plank from the Platform. Since that time, RNC for Life has successfully defended the pro-life plank, including strengthening the ban on embryonic stem cell research in the 2008 platform.

Governor Sarah Palin will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Life of the Party event on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008 from 4-6pm at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in St. Paul, MN hosted by the Republican National Coalition for Life. If you would like to obtain m edia clearance, please contact RNC for Life spokesperson Jessica Echard at jessica at rnclife.org .
