One observation from a radical point of view. We were not going to get a
president who was even in a lukewarm sense on our side; we were going to
get an enemy. So it didn't make any difference to us in policy terms who
got the nomination. (We did have reason to regret the hatred at uppity
women revealed in attacks on Clinton which focused on her personality or
ethics rather than on her obscene politics.) So given that, it is
pleasant to think of the momentary exhilaration so many black people did
feel at his election. I mean really. There is no difficulty in
understanding that. And repeat: As bad as Obama is, he is not a whit
worse than any of 50 DP politicians who might have been nominated.
If liberals and too many radicals (or would-be radicals) deluded
thsmselves about his politics, that is not his fault or the fault of the
blacks who voted for him and celebrated his election.
