Thia ia the general process of justification people engage in when they do something they think is wrong.
Also, when considering abortion figures in Poland, you need to consider the influence on this of social disapproval of contraception, which was frowned upon by the communists and now by the, um, Church.
As a note, one cannot make the leap from noting the occurrance of x number of actions in a society to concluding that that action is condoned by the society. There is a lot of incest and murder going on in the United States, but that does not mean that Americans think incest and murder are fine.
