Paul Krugman today:

"Why was the [auto rescue] plan blocked? An e-mail message circulated among Senate Republicans declared that denying the auto industry a loan was an opportunity for Republicans to 'take their first shot against organized labor.'"

The same day's New York Times ran a full page ad from UnionFacts.org. With thumbtacks, yarn, and Polaroids, UnionFacts.org told a joke about Blagojevich, Andy Stern, and ACORN. The punchline: the Employee Free Choice Act is just another shakedown.

When I heard Harold Meyerson this afternoon, he read the Republican demand for the UAW to scrap any union pay premium for their members as the first shot against the Employee Free Choice Act.
