[lbo-talk] Obama & the white guys

Here's something I keep wondering about whites & Obama:

Is the white support really going to be there in November, or is it the way it was with other African-American candidates in the past in local elections who polled high among whites before the election, but who would lose nonetheless, causing pollsters to scratch their heads. Eventually a theory came out that whites disproportionately, and deceptively, said they supported the African-American lest they be called racist. But in the secrecy of the ballot box, such public shows of anti-racism weren't necessary, and African-Americans were dealt losses when the real sentiment was expressed.

Recent polls show BHO has a better chance of beating McCain than HRC. But how "real" would this end up being? Does Karl Rove still have his "Obama '08" bumper sticker on his car -- as he seems to hope that is who'll win, thinking it'll assure a GOP victory? Oh well, a lot can happen in the next few months.
