<In contrast to the truly insane policies of the unilateralist wing of U.S. imperialism, the "Atlanticist" ("trilateralist," "human rights") imperialism of the "liberal" and neo-liberal wing of our ruling class is the only kind of imperialism that has a chance of maintaining U.S. long term dominance.>

The Obama-Power foreign policy strategy is in fact perfectly suited to claw back perhaps the biggest gaffe of the Bushite bumblefucks: the ways in which since 2003 or so the Bushites have inadvertently brought China and Russia closer together and added substance to the Sino-Russian strategic partnership. Geostrategically speaking this is perhaps the most ominous fear of US ruling groups. The surest path to restoring trust in the chancellries of Western and Central Europe, post-Abe Japan, post-Howard Australia, and perhaps India as well, and getting them on board to counter the Sino-Russian Frankenstein which the Bushites have unwittingly concocted, is to enshrine the liberal internationalists. Either Clinton or Obama will do, but Power is such the smoothie, her approach more in tune with that of the global governance/human rights crowd populating the poli sci departments of Third Way Europe. (Point of information: even if one were to swallow John Edwards' economic populist weasel words at face value, bear in mind that he was the co-signator of the anti-Putin alarmist white paper report, "Russia's Wrong Direction...")
None of this is to express admiration for the regimes in Beijing or Moscow; in my bones I am a anarcho-commie red-green and I've no love lost for the authoritarian capitalisms of China or Russia. (Especially since witnessing that dreadfully dull heavyweight unification fight between ex-Soviets between Klitschko and Ibragimov a few hours ago. Egads, what a snoozer! Of course Wlad is an Ukrainian Orange Revolution enthusiast...) But facts is facts...
