UNITY DAY - FEBRUARY 4, 2008 - ONE MOMENT OF YOUR TIME IS NEEDED
On Easter Sunday 1993, Ohio's Lucasville prison was rocked when prisoners took control in what was the longest prison uprising in U.S. history. Prisoners were fighting back against Lucasville's wretched conditions & a "long train of abuses" levelled at them from prison bosses. Over the course of the uprising nine prisoners and one guard were killed.
After prisoner leaders negotiated a peaceful ending to the siege, state officials used snitch, perjured, and coerced testimony to target pre-selected prisoners. Five of these prisoners (The Lucasville 5) were sentenced to death, while numerous others were given "never-ever" life sentences. The brutal injustices of these sham trials have been well documented (eg, Attorney Staughton Lynd's classic, "Lucasville: The Untold Story of a Prison Uprising"...

WE ARE ASKING ALL FRIENDS OF JUSTICE TO TAKE PART IN A NATIONAL DAY OF UNITY ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2008, AS WE FLOOD GOV. TED STRICKLAND'S OFFICE WITH PHONE CALLS, EMAILS, LETTERS, & FAXES, DEMANDING AMNESTY FOR ALL LUCASVILLE-RELATED CONVICTIONS.
Gov. Ted Strickland Phone (614) 466-3555 http://governor.ohio.gov/ Riffe Center, 30th Floor 77 South High Street Columbus, Ohio 43215-6108 Fax (614) 466-9354
To access a template letter, go to www.FreeHasan.org, and click "Amnesty Letter". Any Unity Day questions can be answered by emailing Saadiqah at FreeHasan.org or calling (419) 514-7634
Many of those convicted as a result of the April 1993 events at Lucasville have been in solitary confinement for almost 15 years.
There is a precedence for amnesty - approximately five years after the prison uprising in Attica, NY, Gov. Carey declared a general amnesty for all persons involved.
