[lbo-talk] Urban wealth/ethnic stratification

Excellent question. Dallas is the same way. North d\Dallas = posh and boozhie. South Dallas is, in Dallasites' minds' at least, Dante's Inferno. Scary, scary place. Roll up your windows & lock your doors, kids -- we're entering SOUTH DALLAS.

Similar in Austin, but with East Austin being the scary, frightening place. And again, North Austin and the northern satellite towns of Austin like Pflugerville are the posh retreats, as in Dallas with its Plano and Frisco areas. But basically in Austin and Dallas, the eastside is where it's more working class and also more ethnically mixed, which means it's probably something like 40% Latino, 40% anglo, 17% African-American, & the remainder "other."
