My impression is that public support in Russia for a "return to socialism" (whatever that means) has been plummeting rapidly for the past several years, probably not coincidentally corresponding with the economic boom. The percentage of the population that is "middle class" (however vaguely defined -- and I have seen some vague definitions!) has gone from about 7% to about 25%.
