B. is exactly right. "Punk," or whatever it was, was hated by the old 
hippies running the FM stations in the late-70s/early-80s. Shit, they barely 
played The Ramones, who owed much of their sound to early-60s pop. I recall 
when the rock station in Indy broke down and played Devo's "Whip It." The 
jock spent more time explaining the reason why he played it than the time it 
took to play the actual song.
