it seem like you're getting your back up for nothing. no one in this conversation has denigrated catholics or fraternities or seen them as completely untenable as a place for people concerned with social justice issues.

at issue was whether electoral politics should be prioritized over these other groups -- and why. thex examples weren't proffered to ridicule them, but to simply point out that Julio's definitions and arguments were inadequate since what he said about electoral politics could be applied to _every_ organization.
