YAKUTSK. March 12 (Interfax) - Varvara Semennikova, the oldest woman in Russia, died in the village of Saskylakh on March 9, northwestern Yakutia, a source with the local administration told Interfax.
Semennikova turned 117 in May 2007. She was officially acknowledged as the oldest woman in Russia.
Semennikova was born in the Zhigansky ulus, Yakutia in 1890. She was married twice. All her children died which is why she brought up three adopted children, from whom she has over a dozen grand and great-grandchildren.
