You think that is the core problem? Surely the core problem is that the Democratic "party" has no way to determine who its members will be and its members have no way of determining what its policies are.
In short, the core problem of the "Democrat Party" is that it is an entirely fictional entity. Like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny? Democrat candidates might suffer from the problem you mention, but what have they to do with this imaginary democrat "party"?
