There's an old joke about this.
Intrepid explorer fights his way through the vines, leeches, crocodiles, piranha and so, and finds himself in a hitherto unexplored region of the mighty Amazon basin. Out of food, out of water, delirious with malaria, he suddenly stumbles into a firelit clearing. And there, carefully stewing cabbage, he sees -- Adolph Hitler.
Adolph is old and gray; the trademark mustache is hardly more than a smudge; but the Fuehrer-gleam is still there in his eye.
"Willkommen," says Adolph. Then, switching to his clumsy English, "Sit. Eat."
Our man eats, drinks. Silence. Finally, as anyone would do, he broaches the obvious, unavoidable subject.
"Er -- excuse me -- but you're Adolph Hitler, aren't you?"
"Jawohl," says Adolph.
"Tell me," says the explorer, after a long moment's thought. "Is there anything you regret? Anything you would do different?"
Adolph smiles.
"Next time," he says, wagging a finger -- "Next time, no more Mister Nice Guy!"
