The Washington office of Ed Hyman, Wall Street's favorite economist, has a couple of interesting observations in today's policy commentary:

* Right after the election, it looked like the Dems had performed under expectations in the Senate races, and were going to lose Lieberman. Since election night, they've won Oregon and Alaska, have a shot in Minnesota, and kept Lieberman. Getting quickly to the bottom line: this could "change the outlook" on the Employee Free Choice Act.

* Relatively few of the Dem Congressional winners took anti-free-trade positions.

* The stock market rose 80% during FDR's first 100 days.
