Doug Henwood obviously resents Ralph Nader so much that he even misrepresents what he supposedly heard Nader say. Nader didn't use the word *socialist* negatively. He used the word *"socialist"*. The scare quote-marks make all the difference and it is a sign of hysterical deafness not to have heard them.
