Palin In 2012: The Argument

There's a suspicion in some McCain loyalist precincts that Gov. Sarah  Palin is beginning to play the Republican base against John McCain --  McCain won't let her campaign in Michigan...McCain won't let her bring  up Jeremiah Wright... McCain doesn't like her terrorist pal talks....

Think ahead to 2010...2011...2012.

Palin is ambitious. Very ambitious.

[WS:]  She might have mobilized dittoheads and fundies, but her appeal beyond that is rather limited.  So if her introduction to the McCain ticket did not bring much new support, why would that change if she run alone?  She needs much more than a bunch of dittoheads and fundies to win, and the changing demographics is working against her.

I think that the above argument rests on the false premise that McCain is a force that holds the "Palin power" back, and when freed from the old coot constraint, that "power"  will surge.  In reality, the opposite is true - she appears to have any "power" only because she is McCain sidekick and by the means of contrast to the old coot.  When left to her own devices, she will not travel very far beyond the cricles of the dittoheads and fundies.
