----- Original Message ----- From: "ravi" <ravi at platosbeard.org> In poking around the Internets, looking for a Hilbert-Heidegger connection of any sort, I found this paper that at least Ian, Chuck G and Jerry will find amusing:

For one thing, it informed me of a Heidegger - Winograd connection that I never knew of (and wish I had known about during my arguments in the AI seminars in grad school):

Winograd, Terry (1989), "Heidegger and the Design of Computer Systems" Conference on Applied Heidegger, Berkeley, September, 1989.

Iirc, it was Fernando Flores who got TW interested in H.. Francisco Varela too. In his later years, even as he was working on immunology, FV spent a lot of time melding his approach with Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology ["but the footnote on mescaline, honey, I'm serious!"].

It would be fascinating to find out about how intellectuals in Chile, Brazil etc. got turned on to Heidegger.

Did I mention that imho H. set new standards in bloviation?

I know you know the whole Hubert Dreyfus rant now, right?

Ian
