Burning witches to prevent them from casting spells doesn't work, because there are no witches casting evil spells is the first place. On the other hand, people who have knowledge other people want to have do exist.

No wonder you thought 2001: A Space Oddyssy was too hard to understand. You have the mental agility of a gerbil, if the gerbil's mother drank and smoked while she was expecting the litter.
