If I may descend from the Olympian heights for a bit, how about just a good mystery novel? Ruth Rendell is the bomb. Mo Hayder's not bad either. (Why British women are always the best mystery writers is a mystery in itself!)

To hell with this intellectual edification stuff. I just reread Pet Sematary. It was awesome. Way better than crappy Duma Key. :)
