There is a lot of music integrated with work as in Southern slave field hollers, Russian peasants "yo ho heave ho", sailor songs, etc. The rhythm of music is a basis for coordinating group labor.

Historically, indigenously, drums were used for message systems in Africa and America. Horns were used in hunting.

Music is not confined to leisure time.
