The (undefined) word "kitschy" was DRR's, absolutely not mine. Sibelius didn't write masses, so there's nothing in the same genre to compare. In the recorded catalogue and the performance repertoire the stature of the Violin Concerto (second version) is comparable to those of Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky.
