Neil Young is doing what people who really love cars do, i.e. building/tweaking his own. Can Cockburn do that?
............
No, he probably can't.
But the point is, if (as we're assuming) part of his rejection of AGW is prompted by a fear he'd have to give up lovely vehicles -- perhaps having to settle for the 'glorified golf carts' which often come up in conversations about likely solutions -- that's not a very good excuse since projects like the Lincvolt and, even more to the point, the Honda FCX demonstrate what can be done.
(FCX - <http://automobiles.honda.com/fcx-clarity/> ).
So, instead of petulantly holding onto past forms, the better maneuver is to imagine and support in whatever way possible the creation of new design solutions.
The Lincvolt is a rich guy's hobby but a useful one because it serves as a rolling proof of concept. In related news, a friend has converted his Subaru WRX to run a hydrogen boosted combustion cycle. If it wasn't for a wee little hexavalent chromium problem it'd be his primary source of transport.
This is also a well-to-do guy's hobby but a useful one inasmuch as it has totally changed his thoughts (and the thoughts of his admiring neighbors) re: de-carbonization.
