Whee! We went out for dinner and finally decided to stop at this place next to an old movie theater (theeATEr if yer my grandma). All this time, I thought it was a video store where you buy videos errr, um, DVDs (showin' my age there). Turns out, it's an indie *cinema* store.
This place is the shit. They have movies in every genre. The first thing I spied was the doco, Derrida. Docos galore. Amazing! There are several shelves just devoted to shorts. Films from New Zealand, Africa, Poland, and on and on. A huge collection of porn -- no lie! I haven't seen a regular old store that rents porno, alongside family fare, in ages! And not just regular porno, but art porn, docos about porn, indie porn, feminist porn, oh. mi. gawd. An entire shelf devoted to specific directors. All of John Sayles' films for example!
This place is the shit! We even found the Russian titles, Night Watch and Day Watch. All -- I mean all -- of Deepa Mehta's films!
Soooooo. Hit me up with suggestions for your favorite films: oldies, noir, docos, porn, bollywood, French, German -- oh hell, they had an entire section _just_ devoted to films about Nazis, whether docos or fiction!
Whatever it is, I don't care. I'll add them to my list of films to see and we'll definitely get to them. I can't believe we lived here this long and we only just discovered the place! Dayum.
