Yes, it's a problematic film - American eugenics ideology at its finest, full of the standard Rightwing rage at Government bureaucrats, combined with fantasies of an all-powerful whiteness. There's even a sympathetic government agent who looks and sounds exactly like Nixon. Really creepy, actually.

That said, one of the remarkable things about aesthetics in the age of neoliberalism is how often progressive politics goes hand in hand with great art, whatever the genre: Hayao Miyazaki, Heiner Mueller, Mahasweti Devi, Orhan Pamuk, etc.
