I note that this eloquent plea to Obama for humanitarianism and international goodwill has not a single word about the most important issue in the Afghan conflict: the Heroin trade and the absolute necessity to eliminate it by the legalization of opium-poppy cultivation and the formation of an Afghan-controlled manufacturing and exporting authority for the purchase (at above-market prices) of opium, its processing into morphine, and its distribution as medicine throughout the world.
After all, if one is into making futile appeals one should at least include something realistic in them.
