*Sigh*
The progression of the conversation was roughly as follows:
1. Mage states that the Platonic or Christian god cannot influence the world because it is entirely other. 2. I responded that it is not the case that either the Platonic or Christian god is conceived of as entirely other. 3. John and Dwayne stated that that was not what they had learned in Christian schools. 4. I responded that that may be the case, but that Christian theology in general actually does not hold this to be true, and then adduced a relevant passage of Aquinas (the guy who is the basis for modern Catholic theology) to illustrate my point. 5. Dwayne then correctly stated that what theology maintains and what your average Christain believes do not always coincide. 6. I agreed with this, but then pointed out that I was addressing the original point by Mage, which was not about what average Christians hold to be true, but rather a sweeping (and demonstrably false) statement about the conception of the divine in Christianity and Plato.
So, as you can see, my comment was up at the top.
Why are engaging in this silly debate?
