99 million Nintendo DSes argue otherwise. The entire Web is a gigantic public space, and you can't run a Google search without tripping over a videogame fansite.

Of course, game culture is highly discontinuous -- the PC game culture of the 1980s is very different from the Nintendo culture of the early 1990s.
