> nothing like testing
> the president elect.
Not a rhetorical question: do you think they felt they *needed* to test him? Hadn't he made his allegiances pretty clear? Seemed so to me, at the time.
These folks, you know, have much better information than you and I. We read the tea leaves. They hear it all from the horse's mouth. Or the donkey's.
One of the nice things about interregna is that you can establish a pattern and nobody needs to take responsibility. Bush is out, Obie isn't in. Israel moves the ball. And when Obie takes office, in a couple of weeks, he will, of course, feel obliged to be "realistic" and recognize the new "reality" -- a "reality" Jerusalem hopes will be even more in its own favor than the previous one.
Obie will be quite happy to make the recognition, I feel sure. So what the Israelis are doing -- if I have this right -- is not so much testing him, as doing him a favor.
