Now that I think of it, one big historical example of the aristocracy mythologizing the peasantry was of course Nikolas and Alexandra's (mainly Alexandra's) idolization of Rasputin. Which was itself a symptom of an increasingly isolated monarchy trying to look for a "real, authentic Russian peasant."
