And we shouldn't forget that free market academic economists have often been the enthusiastic handmaidens for repressive and unsavory political regimes. Witness the role that Milton Friedman and his disciples played in Pinochet's regime in Chile. After having declared Chile a rousing success (except for all those people who died either directly from political repression or indirectly because of the negative effects the policies promoted by Friedman et al. had on living standards for working people), they then went on to replicate similar policies on a global scale throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

We shouldn't even have to wait for the revolution. We should consider launching a purge of the universities. The same sort of tactics that have been used to run people like Ward Churchill or Norman Finkelstein out of the academy ought to be used against a few select targets could be used by progressives. We have to start playing hardball because our enemies certainly haven't refrained from doing so.
