We'd like to think that radical priest and perverted priest would be
separate categories, but how do we know that?  The RC problem is systemic.
Let's imagine that, growing up Catholic, you find yourself in the grip of
sexual desire that the Church condemns.  What way out does the Church
provide for you?  The priesthood or religious orders, of course!  If you
take a vow of celibacy, then not only are you exempt from the Church's
condemnation, you're especially holy.  You've just pushed your desire into
the deepest, darkest closet around.  The return of the repressed takes some
pretty fucked-up forms when you do that.  As we have seen.  I don't being an
adept of liberation theology has much to do with this, one way or the other.
