I was just watching a play-through of the latest "Call of Duty" videogame, which was a pleasant surprise (basically, it follows in Metal Gear Solid 4's footsteps, and pulls the rug from underneath the Terror War), when I noticed this story from the fine folks at PNHP:

http://www.pnhp.org/news/2009/november/over_2200_veterans_.php "Over 2,200 veterans died in 2008 due to lack of health insurance: Harvard researchers say 1.46 million working-age vets lacked health coverage last year, increasing their death rate"

It's one of the contradictions of this age that a shooter videogame, from a genre often condemned as being flippant towards human life, should be one of the few North American media productions which honestly acknowledges the madness and futility of war.
