Chuck's comment (babies not imitating) puzzled me too, but then I 
remembered that my daughter's initial attempts at walking resembled 
something much closer to a (nazi) goose step than anything like the 
walking that was going on around her.

This would suggest that she was imitating the idea of walking rather 
than the actual practice that she witnessed.

Just a supportive anecdote.
