well, but it has to apply to bill-o, right? doug's point is a good one, but honestly, i can't watch fox and can barely watch any of the other networks, either. i don't mind watching people argue. what i can't stand is watching people be assholes. ok, and watching people suck. here i go back again to stewart and his visit to Crossfire back in the day: it's not debate. here's maybe where noam has a point, but if so it's a point stewart made better, maybe. the question for me is the extent to which these engagements do anything other than reinforce people's existing beliefs. debate should be opportunities to change thinking. it's not clear that these "debates" ever are. people already know what the answers are. they're just looking for their team to score the point.
