The true values of the Western "left" are revealed by, among other things, near absolute silence on the recent bombings and other imperial atrocities inflicted by the BHO Regime on Afghanistan. Not to mention a number of women recently gang-raped by US-trained and funded forces in Honduras.
The closest thing to principled criticism of the Invasion I've come across has been a piece by Robert Scheer admonishing Obama not to get "bogged down" in another "quagmire." Absent altogether, any indication the war is a crime against humanity, fundamentally "wrong and immoral" regardless the practical difficulties it presents the Pentagon. Furthermore, the war is not "meaningless", as Scheer claims--conquest of Central Asia has meant a great deal to empires for a long time, at least since the Roman Era.
What ever it means to be a leftist, it canont be concern for human rights, the rights of women or for democracy--our actions, in spite of our (sometimes) words, betray other priorities.
