Personally, I think it's weird that the far left is opposed to the EU. Even Trotsky supported the end of custom barriers and a federation of European states as a transitional demand. So what if the EU is neo-liberal, who isn't at this point? It's a contested field, which I'm afraid the right-wing has been playing well in as of late. This looks all to like a sad replay of past episodes where socialists attacked parliamentary democracy - not for being insufficient or not participatory enough, but for being a bourgeois sham from start to finish.  Say what you will, but the fact that the bourgeoisie was able to indefinitely end the prospect of major conflict on the continent is a historical achievement. The African Union and the efforts to integrate Latin America are indications that this lesson hasn't been lost on the rest of the world.
