I don't think they've expanded their ranks at all recently. I think the big expansions happened in years like 1960-64, 1975-80, or 1988-94. And when I say "expansion" I don't mean more people becoming conservative, I mean people who already have conservative inclinations becoming ideologized and potentially mobilizable.
