one of the things I found interesting was Healey's discussion of how drug trial research is poorly designed for identifying side effects. In the case of sexual dysfunction, the clinical trials found 5% sexual dysfunction rate for Paxil. Once the drug was approved, however, the rate in practice was 50%! Part of the reason, in that instance, is that people aren't making the connection, no one thought to ask the question, and/or people who too uncomfortable to raise the problem. but these same issues come up WRT other side effects. In this regard, Healey's discussion of the testing of prozac in 35 studies of "healthy populations" was truly fascinating.
