Unfortunnately, it is an empirical fact under current political conditions that no left group, whether a study group or a leafletting task force or a local anti-war group, will stay afloat unless some individuals withn it take "personal responsibility" for maintaing the group's continuity. That IS unfortunate however and an index to the non-existence of A Left (that can be referred to as The Left) at the present time. It's the price we pay for our weakn ess, for our being at the present time a random collection of individuuals rather than a Movement. But current empirical actuality should not obscure our recognition of reality: and reality is that placing personal responsibility on individuals, or suggesting that "hard work" or "self improvement" are "virtues," is pure viciousness, pure surrender to the fvery worst features of capitalism.
