That's likely to continue until there are social explosions. After all, up to now, most of big business and big finance have profited very handsomely from neo-liberalism. Why would they want to upset the applecart if they can avoid it?

The Irish government certainly hasn't. Its response has been to decimate social spending and public sector wages (at ALL levels including the very lowest) and to introduce charges for certain essential elements of health care, e.g. prescriptions and dental treatment, that were previously free on the General Medical Scheme.
