The fact that NY State tea partiers are trying to draft a real estate developer as their gubernatorial candidate lends some credence to Doug's speculation that the class composition of the movement as a whole is based mainly on small biz types and the struggling self-employed. To put it mildly, that's not fertile ground for left-wing agitation and organization. I'm not sure how you could entice a someone like a real estate developer to defect to the left either.
