>UVa has posted audio clips from William Faulkner's time as writer in residence, 1957-58. Amazing one where WF takes Virginia to task for not acting as the leader of the south, but instead acting like crude Mississippi, by having mistakenly sent out some dinner invitations to "Negroes," invitations that of course had to be recalled.
He's clearly criticizing Virginia for crude racism, but I'm having a hard time deciding whether it's the racism or the crudity he deplores. I'm hoping not to spend the next few hours with these.
Thanks,
