I've formed no opinion on this, but if various groups around the world _did_ launch a boycott in practice this contradiction wouold not be the bother it seems to be in discussion on a maillist.
The thing is that supporters of Palestine need something to _do_ to manifest/embody their support in action. That is more important than the logical contradiction you mention here.
