Yeah, but Jefferson would never have existed in the first place without the Enlightenment/Reformation, which were in turn (roughly) reactions to the middle ages (sort of), of which Aquinas is generally considered the emblematic thinker. But I suppose with this logic we would have to go back to the breakup of Pangaia...

It's true they're talking about world history. But in this sense, the switch is if anything less sensible. We're talking about revolutions after 1750, which Jefferson certainly had more influence on (both in the US and in France) than Calvin and Aquinas combined.
