I've just been browsing here and there in this thread, so my remarks may be irrelevant.

Some of the posts seem to imply that the age at which a child begins to r ead is important. I doubt very much that his is true. It is quite possible for one child to read at (say) four, another not to read until eight, and both to read equually well at age 9 or 10.
