I think that Yudof's logic makes a certain amount of sense within the context of the logic of the upper administration, which is attempting to privatize the UC system. The admin spends most of its time looking for private or outside funding, which isn't going to be found for the humanities for the most part. The humanities can contribute to this through increased workloads and other classic forms of exploitation. The only way this doesn't make sense is if you embrace a genuine public university.
