I've gotten interested in the intensity of policing (I live in New York City, which ought to be all the excuse I need).
Does anybody know where to find time-series stats about the aggregate number of cops in the US? Ideally there ought to be some similar data about Pinkertons, doorshakers, private "security guards" vel sim., but even just regular Boys in Blue would be interesting.
